Aaloo - Tamatar - Masoor Dal

- 1/4th cup masoor dal/lentils (rinse it)
- Potatoes - 2 medium (peeled & diced)
- Tomatoes - 1 finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- Pinch of asafoetida (Hing)
- Salt as needed
- 4 cups of water
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- Pinch of asafoetida (Hing)
- 2 tsp oil
- 2 tsp crushed red chillies
- Chilli powder -1/2 tsp
- Dhania Powder - 1 tsp
- Cumin Powder - 1/2 tsp
- Garam Masala - 1 tsp
- 2 green chillies slit
- 2 tsp oil
- Onion - 1 medium size finely chopped
- Coriander leaves to garnish
- In a pressure cooker add dal, diced potatoes and chopped tomatoes cook for 3 whistles along with turmeric, salt, hing & red chilli powder. Proportion of water must be 2 1/2 times more than dal.
- Allow pressure to release on its own.
- For tadka, Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, red chillies, when it splutters add finely chopped onions, ginger garlic paste, green chillies & asafoetida ,
- Add the pressure cooked mixture to the tadka & add red chilli powder, dhania powder, cumin powder, garam masala & salt. Saute for a minute. Cover & cook for another 2 mins on a low flame.
- Aaloo Tamatar Masoor Dal is ready. Garnish with coriander leaves & Serve Hot with rotis.
