Chana Pav | How to make Chana Pav | Chana Pav Sandwich | Chana Pav Chat

Chana Pav 

Pav means bread & they look mostly rectangular & some times round in shape. This bread is soft & has a kind of neutral taste to it. You can buy this bread from a grocery store or from a local bakery shop. For this dish I used mix of chick peas & veggies. I have seen many street vendors adding chick peas to their bhaji & they use the same bhaji for samosa chat & in few other chat's. Chana Pav is enjoyed along with sliced onion & a little spread of lemon juice. Here's a new recipe try it out and share your feedback

Ingredients  :

Servings - 2
  • 1/4th Cup kabuli channa (chick peas)
  • 1 Cup chopped onion 
  • 2 Tomatoes chopped
  • 1 tsp Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1/4th Cup water
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp chilli powder (adjust as needed)
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tsp dhania powder 
  • 2 tbsp coriander chopped
  • 3 tbsp oil
For Pav & Serving :  

  • 3Tbs butter / ghee
  • 6 Pav
  • Finely chopped onions 
  • 1 Lemon slice


Method :
  1. Pressure cook chick peas for 5 whistles. Allow it to cool.
  2. Mean while heat pan with oil. Add onions to pan a along with garlic.
  3. Fry till onions are soft. 
  4. Add tomatoes to pan & cook them till oil separates.
  5. Add the pressure cooked chickpeas along with little water to pan. (Do not add much water, Curry should be of solid consistency not watery)
  6. Cook on low heat for 3 mins. 
  7. To that add salt, turmeric chili powder, dhania powder & garam masala powder.  Adjust salt & chili powder if needed.
  8. Cook them on low heat with a closed lid for 5mins.
  9. Switch off heat & garnish with coriander leaves.

For Servings : 
  1. Heat a pan with little butter. 
  2. Cut pav in to half horizontally. 
  3. Place them on the pan along with butter & cook them till they are crisp & browned a little.
  4. Repeat the same with rest of the pav's. 
  5. Serve with chana curry, onions & lemon slice.
