Paruppu Usili Recipe | Beans Paruppu Usli | Beans Dal Mix

Beans Paruppu Usli

Beans Paruppu Usili is a very popular South Indian Dish. I love this Beans Paruppu Usili for its texture. This is my favourite side-dish to go with rice and rasam or mor kuzhambu. This is straight from my mom-in-law’s recipe. I tried it for the first time. It came out really Yummy & from now onwards I am going to make it once in a week. Let's learn how to make Beans Paruppu Usili.

Ingredients :
Servings -  4
  •    Beans - 1 1/2 cup chopped
  •    Toor Dal -1/3 cup
  •    Chana dal -1 1/2 tbsp
  •    Red Chilli -2
  •    Green chilli -1
  •    Turmeric powder -1/2 tsp
  •    Salt to taste
  •    Oil - 1 1/2 tbsp
  •    Mustard seeds -1 tsp
  •    Curry leaves -5-6
  •    Asafoetida/hing a pinch

Method :
  1. Wash and soak the toor dal and channa dal (you can put them together) for about 1.5 hours.
  2. Once soft, grind this coarsely with red chillies, turmeric, some salt and hing without water
  3. Now steam the coarsely ground dal for 20minutes or until cooked. You can use a steamer or an idli pan.
  4. Once cooked remove from the pan and leave it to cool for a few minutes. Then crumble the dal using the mixie. You will get evenly crumbled dal when done in mixie. Just operate it for a second. Now crumbled dal is ready.
  5. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add hing and curry leaves. Then add the crumbled dal, mix well and cook on medium flame for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Add the cooked beans (Drain/squeeze the water out) and mix it well with the crumbled dal. Cover and cook it for another 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove & Serve Hot with steamed rice & mor kuzhambu.
