Homemade Ghee Recipe/Clarified Butter

Ghee is known as Indian Clarified butter used to enhance the taste while cooking & has a very sweet aroma. Ghee has been proven as one of the most beneficial fats to be used in the kitchen. Ghee / Clarified Butter is one of the most important things which has no substitute and nothing can replace the taste and flavor of homemade ghee. Its quite cheap in cost compared to store bought ones. Unique taste of briyani comes from this Ghee. This is very easy to make all we need is butter and a sauce pan Lets start the preparation.

Ingredients :
  • Butter - 250 grams (Unsalted)
  • Saucepan
  • Wooden Spatula
  • Stainless Strainer
  • Clean Jar with lid
  • Curry leaves - 4-5
  • Cheesecloth to filter

Method :
  1. Place the butter in a stainless steel pan and melt gently on a medium flame as shown in the picture below
  2. Once the butter has melted, lower the heat until the butter is gently boiling.
  3. Ghee can easily burn so prevent too much vigorous boiling- if it has become too brown and gives a nutty aroma it has burned.
  4. Once the ghee starts to become clear. It is almost done! The boiled liquid will give off a nice aroma making your kitchen an heaven!
  5. After 7-10 minutes the bubbles will gradually get smaller as shown in the picture below
  6. Once the bubbles sets and solid particles settles down turn off the heat.Add 4-5 curry leaves to get very good flavor (optional)
  7. If it produces a crackling sound, your ghee is ready! Once it is warm it can be filtered into glass jars. Do not cool it much else it will be difficult to filter.
  8. Filter using fine sieves/strainer into dry glass jars or stainless steel containers.
  9. Our homemade ghee is ready & can be used for cooking!!!
