Getting a job in Amsterdam😊
Firstly, after coming to , Amsterdam I didn't want to be idle & waste my time. I was eagerly looking for a job to be financially independent . It's not that Sakthi wasn’t spending for me, he did but I have always been financially independent, no matter what. My dad has inspired me in many aspects and one of that is he worked until his 60s & still wants to work. So its natural for me to think about getting a job.
Initially I started my job hunt happily. I had a misconception that getting a job was easy. In India I got a job immediately after my college. I hold around 3 years of work experience in Customer Service, Technical & HR domain. I thought I would easily get a job in Amsterdam but it proved me wrong. This blog is all about that ….trust me, it was even worse!
No recommendations of any sort will work in Amsterdam.. I started applying for all HR related work since I have worked on this domain years ago, I was not aware of Europe HR policies & procedures used. It was a very vast subject & completely new for me. Oh God, I was so lost. Was trying my best everything all over again. It was not happening..
Every morning I used to wake up to "rejection mails"☹️that was a response from employer that they have chosen some other dutch speaking candidate with more experience & asking me to apply next time. I got lots of rejection mails for everything that I applied for. Since I don't have any working experience in Amsterdam. I was totally frustrated & was more desperate in getting some job.
I applied for 1 year religiously. Every job related to HR I started applying for all of them. Part time,Full time, Permanent jobs, Contractual jobs. Everything that i came across. My job search continued……..
Finally, I came across a post in Facebook regarding a job opportunity in some store. I thought to give it a try. To be honest, I did not have any idea about the nature of the job nor the location of the office, since I applied for ‘n’ number of jobs on a daily basis. My husband accompanied me for the interview. I had brief meetings with them and was recruited. Sakthi left it to my choice. I was in a dilemma .. thinking about it. I decided to go for that job. To celebrate that day me & my husband went to Taj Restaurant. He gave me a treat there. 😛
I went for training with all my documents when they confirmed that this was based at Dam Square office ( Amsterdam Central 90 mins from my place) and that I need to travel everyday, that too on a daily basis. This made me to think. Meanwhile, I was informed that my shift would be Weekdays 11 am-6 pm. I felt like I achieved something impossible & it was definitely something great-getting a job in Amsterdam.
The main reason was to do something worthwhile, to get a exposure of working here & also to get used to the Dutch accent. Sometimes it makes me to wonder that if people speak English here, They shorten the word most of the time Its completely different("Bye-Doei","Good morning-Goedemorgen").It was an awesome experience working with them. Now I can at least understand few words from the local people over there. I enjoyed my work & I completed 2 months Isn’t that great?

Keep trying and u can achieve everything...that is the moral of the story see you all soon in my next post.
